Discover the tour of the places linked to painter Laxeiro's stay in Vigo, where he lived in two periods: from 1942 to 1951 and from 1971 to his death in 1996. Vigo was so important to the painter that he decided to donate to the city a collection of seventy-seven works of art, which today can be seen in the permanent collection of Laxeiro Foundation and in the Quiñones de León Municipal Museum.
Laxeiro (José Otero Abeledo, Lalín, 1908-Vigo, 1996) is one of the most prominent painters of Galician art in the 20th century. A distinguished member of the group known as "Os Novos" (The New Ones), Laxeiro was one of the driving forces behind the introduction of Galician art into contemporary art. His prodigious imagination, artistic talent, and ability to reinterpret popular culture in a contemporary context have made his work a legacy without which the current Galician culture could not be fully understood.
