Discover the route of the places linked to the stay of the painter Laxeiro in Vigo, where he lived in two periods: from 1942 to 1951 and from 1971 to 1996, the year of his passing. Vigo was so important to the painter that he decided to donate a collection of seventy-seven artworks to the city, which can be seen today in the permanent collection of the Foundation that bears his name and in the Quiñones de León Municipal Museum.
Laxeiro (José Otero Abeledo, Lalín, 1908-Vigo, 1996) is one of the most prominent painters of Galician art in the 20th century. A distinguished member of the group known as "Os Novos" (The New Ones), Laxeiro was one of the driving forces behind the introduction of Galician art into contemporary art. His prodigious imagination, artistic talent, and ability to reinterpret popular culture in a contemporary context have made his work a legacy without which the current Galician culture could not be fully understood.
